Xpeng Maintains Strong Sales Momentum

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng reported June deliveries of 34,611 vehicles, marking its eighth consecutive month above the 30,000 mark. This steady performance comes amid a highly competitive market and pricing pressure in China’s EV sector. The company did not specify the breakdown between its advanced driver-assist models and its more affordable Mona series.

The broader market remains intense. While Xpeng saw gains, rivals experienced mixed results. Nio delivered 24,925 cars in June, slightly higher than May, supported by demand for both premium and lower-cost models. Geely-backed Zeekr reported 16,702 deliveries, a monthly and yearly decline. Li Auto delivered 36,279 units in June, a drop from the previous month but still exceeded its revised second-quarter guidance.

Reports suggest Li Auto recently restricted internal rebate sharing among sales staff in an effort to manage competition and strengthen its service model. The company focuses on extended-range SUVs, which appeal to cautious EV buyers.

Xiaomi, the tech giant turned automaker, delivered more than 25,000 EVs in June. Interest in its new YU7 SUV surged after it was priced below Tesla’s Model Y, though delivery timelines have now stretched to over six months due to high demand. Analysts caution that some orders may be speculative.

Tesla, meanwhile, raised the price of its Model 3 long-range model in China by 10,000 yuan. The company’s sales in China for the first five months of the year totaled just over 200,000 vehicles. Official June figures were not yet available.

Other players saw strong growth. Leapmotor set a monthly record with over 48,000 deliveries in June, and Aito, which uses Huawei technology, followed closely with nearly 45,000. BYD remained the dominant force, selling more than 377,000 passenger vehicles in June alone, with half being fully electric.

In the first half of the year, BYD’s total passenger car sales reached 2.1 million. Li Auto and Leapmotor each surpassed 200,000 units, and Xpeng ended just under that mark at 197,189. Xiaomi delivered over 150,000 units in the same period.

Industry experts expect companies like BYD, Xiaomi, and Geely to lead through any future market consolidation. Despite strong branding and product quality, Nio may face more pressure due to financial constraints.
