Huawei Renews Commitment to Europe

Huawei's annual flagship event opened in Paris with the Chinese company renewing its commitment to remaining a central player in the European Union's digital and green transformations.

Thousands of attendees, including industry leaders, technical experts, and global business partners, converged to discuss the transformative potential of digital and intelligent technology in accelerating the European Union's drive to sustainability.

One fundamental aspect of any digital transformation is establishing high-speed networks, particularly in industrial environments where there is a need for real-time data transmission and analysis of massive amounts of data.

Huawei provides network solutions that address this need and support ultra-broadband connections for a wide range of industrial settings. Huawei has previously worked with other partners to transform Hungary's East-West Gate (EWG) Intermodal Terminal into Europe's first 5G-powered logistics terminal. The terminal will be the gateway for the New Silk Road, offering a wide range of services and enabling traffic between East and West using low latency, ultra-high bandwidth, and very high levels of reliability. 5G is helping the terminal become fully automated, remotely controlling its overhead railway cranes and improving many areas, including safety, working conditions, and efficiency.

Ken Hu, Huawei's Rotating Chairman, expressed his optimism and enthusiasm for Europe's progress to date and congratulated the region for leading the way in the worldwide move to a greener future. He said that Huawei has worked with European customers and partners for over twenty years, making great strides in connecting people, empowering businesses, and building Europe's digital ecosystem. Moving forward, the company expects to play a significant role in strengthening the region's digital transformation, innovation, sustainability, and cyber security.

After Chairman Hu's remarks, Jim Lu, Huawei's Senior Vice President and President of the European Region highlighted four areas that would significantly boost Europe's green and digital transition: an uptick in cooperation, intelligent cloud use, the connectivity of everything, and using bits to manage watts. Lu said that Huawei is ready to work alongside other partners and deliver much-needed products and solutions.

Europe is leading the way in transitioning towards clean, green energy, said Lu, pointing to Huawei's contribution by generating more than 220 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity in Europe, reducing carbon emissions by over 100 million tons, and creating thousands of high-value jobs.

Lu added that Europe is one of Huawei's most strategically important areas in terms of our global operations, and the company would stay customer-focused, create excellent value, and expand its European R&D investment.

"We look forward to doing our part to speed up Europe's green and digital transition," Lu ended while calling for an open, fair, and inclusive environment for innovation that would be central to social development.

Huawei's commitment to Europe's sustainable digital transition was a central thread of the event and reflected the company's commitment to pushing technological frontiers in tandem with environmental consciousness.
